House of Virgin Mary - Basilica of St John

The House of the Virgin Mary is a Roman Catholic and Muslim shrine located on Mt. Koressos. Catholic pilgrims visit the house based on the belief that Mary, the mother of Jesus, was taken to this stone house by Saint John and lived there until her Assumption (according to Catholic doctrine) (or what would be Dormition (according to Orthodox belief)) More details

Basilica of St. John in Ephesus was constructed by Justinian I in the 6th century. It stands over the believed burial site of John the Apostle. It was modeled after the now lost Church of the Holy Apostles in Constantinople. More details

My sincere thanks to all of you for birthday greetings! Made my day!

ADDED: Arnold, if I were to crop the sign board, then the balance created by the brick wall would have gone.

There were quite a few shops in tourist places with fake / replica merchandise but this one was honest about it!

I don't know how I missed this shot Harsh. Probably because I was on a business trip and couldn't find the time to comment. This is a magnificent shot of the Basilica of St. John in Ephesus. I was there in 2000 and was just amazed at all I saw there. I want to go back again. Thanks for sharing this, and glad it popped up again in the Daily today so that I could enjoy it, re-live my own memories of this amazing place and get a chance to comment.
