June 2007
Fateh Singh Rathore's house where we were staying, is near the border of the park's buffer area and due to the oppressive heat and lack of water his garden had regular visits from Sambars (deers) and Langurs . Pug marks of Tigers and Leopards were also spotted a number of times in the last month.
One evening Dr Dharmendra, our field biologist; took us to a place about 40 kms away as he had spotted desert fox, wolves and some other animals in the ravines. The distance was relatively short but part of the journey was through the ravines and riverbed so it took a long time. It was also a back breaking trip and unfortunately because of the earlier rain we could not see any animals but Dharmendra did show us two interesting things. In one area there were small pieces of very old pottery and other artifacts, remains of a village many (hundreds?) years ago. Second place was a stretch of water about 1 km long. It was a lovely and peaceful place and worth the jostling journey.

Thanks to Dharmendra, JJ & Punit for helping identify species
