Republic Day Parade
5th year Pic 156 - 15-Apr-2014. Lavani dance - Republic day parade, Mumbai
Lavani is a combination of traditional song and dance performed to the beats of Dholki, a percussion instrument. Lavani is noted for its powerful rhythm and has contributed substantially to the development of Marathi folk theatre. The songs are sung in a quick tempo and mainly performed by ladies wearing nine-yard long saris, there are also men that dance in support with the lead dancer.
ADDED:
Rick, I've kept the bottom part as it contains the shadows of the two dancers which I feel adds a nice element.
Terry, I tried complete B&W but looked drab with more emphasis on the shadows, taking away the attention from colourful costumes. More Lavani info
Critiques welcome!
It was interesting to note the varied observations on the composition and an honour to see my pic at #4 place! Thank you all!

on April 16, 2014Excellent job, the way the dancers are spaced relative to each other. Their shadows add a lot to the composition. Love their colorful costumes and seeming exuberance in performing. Having a little more at the top of the shot might have given it a bit better balance.
