Daily Photos 4th year

At the Daily Gallery one picture, preferably taken that day; is shared with others. While that is difficult to follow (shooting everyday) I have been putting up a picture everyday and this is my FOURTH year. It's been an enjoyable time viewing pictures of other members and learning new techniques and customs from different places. I think this is the best way to travel to places while sitting at home, and also making friends on the way! It has been a pleasure sharing my pictures and I thank all of you for taking the time to comment on my pictures. Earlier galleries: First year - Second year - Third year - Critiques welcome!

Pamukkale, meaning "cotton castle" in Turkish, is a natural site in Denizli Province in southwestern Turkey. The city contains hot springs and travertines, terraces of carbonate minerals left by the flowing water. Pamukkale is a tourist attraction. It is recognized as a World Heritage Site together with Hierapolis. Pamukkale's terraces are made of travertine, a sedimentary rock deposited by water from the hot springs. There are 17 hot water springs and the water that emerges from the spring is transported 320 metres to the head of the travertine terraces. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pamukkale

ADDED: The top ones with pale blue water are the hot spring pools while turquoise ones are way below on ground level.

Attired in traditional dress, this group sat near the entrance of the resort welcoming guests. The first person is playing the shehnai and the rest are giving rhythm on different types of drums.

The shehnai, shahnai, shenai or mangal vadya, is an aerophonic (wind) instrument, a double reed conical oboe, common in North India, West India, Iran, and Pakistan, made out of wood, with a metal flare bell at the end. Its sound is thought to create and maintain a sense of auspiciousness and sanctity and, as a result, is widely used during marriages, processions, and in temples of West India, although it is also played in concerts.

In 1870, Lord Mayo, the then Viceroy and Governor General, came to Ajmer, where in a Darbar, before the Chiefs of the ruling Princes of Rajputana, he expressed his desire to set up a 'Raj Kumar College' in Ajmer, "devoted exclusively to the education of the sons of Chiefs, Princes and leading Thakurs." The College was opened in October 1875, with Sir Oliver St.John as the first Principal and one boy, Maharaja Mangal Singh of Alwar.
The Main Building was completed in 1885 and was designed by Major Mant. Today, students from all walks of life, study in this prestigious school and make complete use of the many facilities offered.

Picture used! : Not sure how many of you have heard of Sitar maestro Ravi Shankar... he passed on yesterday in California at the age of 92. I'd attended one of his concerts in 1980s and taken some pictures. One pic was used by the daily Asian Age! You can view it at
http://hershy.smugmug.com/Photography/Music-concerts/3147756_3pGLgW#!i=172781058&k=9GjoN
The pic is scanned from an old print so not a good quality but they cleaned it up quite well. If anyone is interested, let me know and I can send the page in PDF format which is quite small in size.

Do read about Ravi Shankar at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ravi_Shankar
