Daily Photos 4th year

At the Daily Gallery one picture, preferably taken that day; is shared with others. While that is difficult to follow (shooting everyday) I have been putting up a picture everyday and this is my FOURTH year. It's been an enjoyable time viewing pictures of other members and learning new techniques and customs from different places. I think this is the best way to travel to places while sitting at home, and also making friends on the way! It has been a pleasure sharing my pictures and I thank all of you for taking the time to comment on my pictures. Earlier galleries: First year - Second year - Third year - Critiques welcome!

Chatuchak weekend market in Bangkok is the largest market in Thailand covering over 35 acres and contains upwards of 5,000 stalls. It is estimated that the market receives 200,000 visitors each day. Most stalls only open on Saturdays and Sundays. The market offers a wide variety of products including household items, clothing, Thai handicrafts, religious artifacts, collectibles, foods, and live animals. For tourists, there are a number of onsite companies who will send purchases abroad. Tourists also find Chatuchak a prominent place to find skilled Thai iced tea makers practicing their trade.

One can easily spend hours at the market, shopping & photographing!

 • 4th year Pic 189 - Aug - 01 2012 Washing.. , Patpong, Bangkok
Patpong is a famous area with a lot of activities. They have a night market with stalls selling all sorts of stuff and of course, food. This lady was washing the dishes for a food stall. Patpong is also (in)famous for it's other type of night life.
 • 4th year Pic 188 - July - 30 2012 Victory monument, Bangkok, Thailand

This was shot from BTS Skytrain with 24mm on Olympus E-P3. The 'texture' is from the reinforced glass of the train and thought it gave a nice affect.
 • 4th year Pic 187 - July - 28 2012 Floating fruits! , Damnoen Saduak , Thailand

Many of you had asked for more pictures of the floating market so here's one more! The lady is selling bananas, mangoes, duriyan, mangosteen and rambutan. Duriyan is the green spikey one and has such a strong smell that many hotels do not allow it inside the rooms! Black are mangosteen and at the end are the red rambutan. I do not know the name of the fruit between bananas & mangoes.

ADDED: Kenneth, like many other locals, she must lead a hard life. The floating village starts in the morning and closes soon after lunch and she must be getting her wares from a nearby village.

A floating market is where goods are sold from Thai style canoes. Originating in times and places where water transport played an important role in daily life, most floating markets operating today mainly serve as tourist attractions. Now shops on both sides of the canal plus plying boats offer fruits, vegetables, sweets and meats plus clothes, trinkets beside other things.

This was shot from the waist with Olympus E-P3 at ISO 1600 at f5.6 1/13 sec with 24mm lens.

Added: Nelli, yes this was shot when we were passing under a bridge.

Heat & humidity exhausted this gentleman but I am feeling the same after a viral attack!

Thursday started with a great surprise seeing my pic in #1 slot but soon came down with fever, aches and cough. The temperature is normal since Saturday but feel rather weak. I may not be able to comment much but will surely try and catch up soon. Thank you all and have a great week ahead.

 • 4th year Pic 178 - July - 16 2012 A great meeting! , Night safari, Chiangmai, Thailand
This was a fully grown tiger and I was allowed to sit at the back with my hand on his back.
On an earlier visit to Thailand we had gone to Samui Orchid Resort where we had interacted with two tigers!
Have a look!
• 4th year Pic 177 - July - 14 2012 Cub feeding! , Night safari, Chiangmai, Thailand
The park is famous for it's night safaris but I found it more fun to 'interact' with some of the animals, including deer, ponies, goats and THREE TIGERS! Unfortunately it was late evening and the picture is not good but the memories are priceless of me feeding a white tiger cub! Was it scary? Not really, long as you know how to behave and don't alarm them, it's fine. I did get a scare when the bottle slipped out of the mouth and he caught my wrist trying to get the bottle back. Had I panicked and tried to snatch my hand away, I may have got scratched. I shoved the bottle back and he licked me and went back to his feed!

 • 4th year Pic 174 - July - 11 2012 Wat in walled city, Chinag Mai, Thailand

When we came out of this Wat, I noticed the rain clouds with the light fading fast. I took three bracketed shots, handheld [Paul is going to frown! :) ] on my E-P3 with the 24mm lens.

 • 4th year Pic 172 - July - 9 2012 Thai gentleman, Chinag Mai, Thailand
Took this pic at a religious festival near our hotel. I was not sure if they'd mind photographers so was a bit wary but apparently they didn't mind and was able to roam around freely.

Enlarge the pic to check out his dress, cigar and jewelry. Don't miss out the headgear and ornaments there!

Young monk, Chinag Mai, Thailand

My friend Shishir saw the original version of this pic and suggested that I try, "Phil Borges look. coloured but not complete desaturated. More desaturated everywhere but the Monk, the monk to be a little less desaturated."

NOT AGAIN! The SNAKE is up to it's dirty tricks again!!! This picture, after Keyphoto's comment; was Thumbed down out of the gallery!
