Daily Photos 2nd year
At the Daily Gallery one picture, preferably taken that day; is shared with others. While that is difficult to follow (shooting everyday) I have been putting up a picture everyday and this is my SECOND year. It's been an enjoyable time viewing pictures of other members and learning new techniques and customs from different places. I think this is the best way to travel to places while sitting at home, and also making friends on the way! It has been a pleasure sharing my pictures and I thank all of you for taking the time to comment on my pictures.

Urlis
28 June 2010
Leica D-Lux4
These urlis or basins are made of solid cast bronze using a traditional cire perdue or lost wax method. Indian craftsmen are masters at the extraction and shaping of metals and alloys as evidenced in archaelogical finds from the 2nd-3rd millennia. These bronze urlis are unique to a region in the south of India, in Kerala. Traditionally they were used as cooking vessels which has given them a lovely patina, but they present many alternative uses today, such as sink basins or garden pools.
