Flowers & birds in our garden at Tea Trail cottage
The highlight of our trip was the stay at Tea Trails! Tea Trails comprises four classic colonial bungalows built for British tea estate managers in the days of the Raj. Situated a few kilometers apart, each bungalow is different combining both classical and contemporary styles. The effect is quintessentially luxurious and colonial; a stroll back in time but entirely resplendent in modern amenities. Each bungalow has a manager, chef, butler and support staff to welcome guests as at a planter’s home. Meals are based on fresh produce, cooked to order and range from western fare to tea infused dishes and of course traditional Sri Lankan classics.
What sets this place apart is its stunning view: Majestically rising above a sea of green tea plants while the lake shimmers below both you and the bungalows gardens, this one is a photographer’s delight. Although priced steeply, the place is totally value for money for what it offers — cooked English or Sri Lankan breakfast, lunch (packed lunch if on excursion), pre-dinner cocktails, four-course gourmet dinner and Chilean house wines AND laundry service!
