Hershy > Back in action (213 22 Dec)
Shot last Sunday - D300 18-105mm f3.5-5.6 ISO 400, f8 1/250

The Taj Mahal hotel was one of the main targets in the terrorist attacks in Mumbai which ended on 29th November after three horrifying days. This old icon of our city has 6 floors while the connecting new wing, The Tower is 22 story high. Work is going on to restore it to its old glory and heavy security keeps people away from the site. The picture shows the side with the damaged upper floors. At the back one can see the top floors of the new wing which had also sustained fires.

Trident and the twin Oberoi hotels were also targeted and many people were shot dead in these hotels and they also sustained damage due to grenades and fires.

Yesterday, in less than a month; The Taj Tower (new wing) and the Trident opened its gates to the public. There were emotional scenes and the mood was summed up by Tata Group chairman Ratan Tata when he said, "She has stood for more than a 100 years and will stand for a 100 more. It was a challenge to have the hotel reopen in some form within a month of the attack. We may have been knocked down but will never be knocked out."
